Making Medical Negligence Claims
If you’re considering making an official complaint against a medical professional, whether it’s a private hospital, NHS hospital, clinic or GP there’s a recommended process to go through. The General Medical Council (GMC) regulate doctors in the UK and advise that you take your complaint directly to the place where you received the treatment. All medical institutions in the UK will have their own complaints process that you can use to seek a satisfactory outcome.
The GMC itself will only look at complaints of a very serious nature such as stopping a doctor from practicing or restricting their practice. If you do not get the response you want from the place of treatment, the GMC will not hear your complaint unless it meets their Fitness to Practice criteria. In addition, the GMC will not solicit an apology for you or help you win a payout, if you’re seeking medical negligence compensation and justice, legal action is your only course of action.
